ZIRCAR Castertip Type ASQ is a  rigid, alumina bonded alumina-silica fiber product designed for use on SCAL thin strip casters. Type ASQ is vacuum formed using specially washed "shot-free" fibers and inorganic binders. It exhibits uniform density and consistency throughout the entire product. ASQ is commonly supplied with an oversize pre-shaped leading edge and is easily ground to its final contour directly on the caster rolls. ASQ exhibits low thermal conductivity, good hot strength and is used in the production of pin hole free medical and packaging grades of foil all around the world.

Standard ASQ is offered in nominal 14 pcf density in the form of a sheet. Custom product is available with variations in size, shape and density.

Custom sizes and shapes are available on request. Boards can be made as small as 1" x 1" x 1/2" and as large as 24" x 49" x 2.5". Disks can be made as small as 1" diameter and 1/2" thick and as large as 24" diameter and 2.5" thick. Cylinders can be made as small as 1/2" Inside Diameter, 1 1/2" Outside Diameter and 1/2" Length and as large as 18" Inside Diameter, 22" Outside Diameter and 24" Length.

Our forming processes, large inventory of custom tooling and state of the art machining techniques allow a wide variety of sizes and shapes to be made. Special geometries such as disks, rings and custom-machined shapes and others can be fabricated. Tight tolerance machining, compositional variations and the application of surface rigidizers and hardening agents are available.

ASQ is commonly produced as a castertip. Castertip variations include:

Sheet stock used in machining tips and baffles, up to 60" long x 24" wide

Pre-shaped blanks with a variety of radii cut along an edge.

Density variations ranging from 10 to 40 pcf density, such as the 20 pcf variety - ASQ-20.
