Alumina-Silica Insulation Type ECO-1200B can be bonded to itself, or other fibrous insulations, using a cement prepared from  Alumina-Silica Insulation Type AX Moldable. This tenacious cement is easily prepared by combining AX Moldable and hot water and readily sticks parts.

AX Moldable "as supplied" is a very sticky, viscous body suited for molding monolithic shapes. Supplies needed include AX Moldable, hot water, spiral paint mixer, drill, notched trowel and a bucket. Combine 1 part AX Moldable with 2 parts hot water (150 F) in a suitable bucket using the mixer.

Mix thoroughly to achieve a smooth, creamy consistency that is free of lumps. It is important that the mixture remain hot for proper mixing

Apply the cement liberally, in an even layer, to the mating surfaces of the parts to be bonded. Remove excess cement using a 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4" notched trowel. Keeping the cement at the right temperature helps assure even application.

Mating parts are ready for bonding when their surfaces have been coated and troweled. Begin the bonding process by pressing the coated parts together with light pressure. Apply light downward pressure and move the parts side to side and in a rotary motion to fully stick the two together.

When completed, there should be a layer of cement ~ 1/8" to 3/16" thick between the parts. Allow the cement to de-water by keeping the parts at room temperature for ~ 1 day. Afterwards they can be force dried. After complete drying all water is removed from the cement and it has shrunk to less than 1/16" in thickness.

Attention to the following subtle points has produced the best cement joints.
