Alumina-Silica Insulation Type AXL & AXHTM
GENERAL INFORMATION
ZIRCAR
Alumina-Silica Insulation Types AXL & AXHTM are strong, rigid
refractory structures of high temperature ceramic fibers and high purity inorganic
binders. Utilizing an inorganic silica binder system Type AXL and Type AXHTM
offer low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal shock resistance and are
an effective thermal insulator in numerous thermal process systems.
AXL is
suitable for use to temperatures of 1260°C (2300°F). AXHTM is suitable for
1427°C(2600°F).
They are noted for their rigid
outer surfaces and unbound interiors. In applications where it is necessary to custom cut
these materials their original exterior hardness can be easily restored with the use of
ZIRCAR Silica Rigidizer Type SI-RIG.
AXL & AXHTM contain no organic binders and produce no smoke or odor when heated.

Primary thermal insulation in low mass furnaces and thermal process systems operating to 1260°C(2300°F) for AXL and 1480°C (2696°F) for AXHTM.
Backup thermal insulation in furnaces and thermal process systems operating to high temperatures.
Launders, distribution boxes, pouring spouts, hot tops and others involving molten metal contact.
Vestibule Blocks in semiconductor processing diffusion furnaces.
Furnace and kiln flue and chimney linings.
Combustion chamber liners, baffles and muffles.
High temperature setters, supports and process fixtures.
Electrical insulation in systems operating at elevated temperatures.
Thermal insulation in hot appliances.

Boards are typically produced up to 36in.
wide x 48in. long x 1in. to 6in. thick. Custom boards and shapes smaller than a
few cubic inches and larger than several cubic feet have been produced.
Cylinders typically produced have 1/2in. to 24in.ID, 1in. to 4in. wall thickness and are up to 12in. long. Custom cylinders and shapes smaller than a few cubic inches, larger than several cubic feet, with ID’s of 1/4in. to 36in., wall thickness of 1/2in.’ to 6in. and lengths to 48in. can be produced.
Semi-cylinders typically produced have 1in. to 18in.ID, 1in. to 4in. wall thickness and are up to 12in. long. Shapes smaller than a few cubic inches, larger than several cubic feet, with ID’s of 1/4in. to 36in., wall thickness of 1/2in.’ to 6in. and lengths to 48in. can be produced. Staved cylinders typically produced have 24in. to 84in.ID, 1in. to 5in. wall thickness and segments up to 24in. long. Shapes smaller than a few cubic inches, larger than several cubic feet, with ID’s of 1in. and up, wall thickness of 1/2in.’ to 6in. and lengths to 48in. can be produced.
Custom boards, cylinders, shapes and preparations are available on request.
Our forming processes, large inventory of custom tooling and state of the art machining
techniques allow a wide variety of sizes and shapes to be made. Special geometries such as
disks, rings, custom bore (round corner square, hexagonal, oval, etc.) cylinders, staved
cylinders, troughs, channel, angle, custom-machined shapes and others can be fabricated.
Custom machining, compositional variations and the application of surface rigidizers and
hardening agents are available.
