GENERAL INFORMATION
ZIRCAR Alumina-silica Insulation Type HASH-60 is a high strength, uniform, rigid, refractory board composed of alumina-silica fibers and high purity alumina binders. It has an optimum fiber density of 45 lbs/ft³ (0.72 gm/cc), fine open pore structure and excellent thermal insulating properties. It has superior hot strength and dimensional stability to 1093°C (2000°F).
The homogeneous microstructure and consistent binder distribution allow it to be machined to tight exacting tolerances with ordinary shop tools and equipment. Superior machineability, dimensional stability plus low heat capacity make it ideal for use as setters, supports and process fixtures in both continuous and batch firing furnaces.
HASH-60 is used extensively as an insulator in high-powered electrical switch gear due to its high temperature dielectric strength and arc quenching ability. The "All Alumina" bond provides high surface area for the adsorption of water, the key to excellent arc quenching ability. It's high electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures makes it ideal for use in direct contact with many different resistance heating elements.
HASH-60 is pre-fired, contain no organic binders and will produce no smoke or odors when heated. It has excellent resistance to chemical attack and is not affected by oil or water. It is, however, affected by hydrofluoric acid, phosphorous acid and strong alkalis.

Standard boards are available for immediate shipment from stock. Standard tolerances are +/- 1/8in. on length and width and +/- 1/16in. on thickness.
Boards are typically produced 16in. wide x 24in. long x1/8 to 1/4in. thick. Custom boards and shapes smaller than a few cubic inches and up to 24in. wide x 36in. long x 2in. thick have been manufactured.
Custom boards, shapes and preparations are available on request. Our forming processes, large inventory of custom tooling and state of the art machining techniques allow a wide variety of sizes and shapes to be made. Special geometries such as disks, rings and custom-machined shapes and others can be fabricated.
Tight tolerance machining, compositional variations and the application of surface rigidizers and hardening agents are available.Please contact us with your special requirements.
